Course overview
A 2-week practical clinical and public health tropical medicine course in the Philippines comprising bedside teaching, lectures/discussion and fieldwork in the communities. Intake quota is limited to 24 students and priority will be given to current DTM&H students and DTM&H graduates.

Aims & objectives
2-week clinical tropical medicine short course for medical doctors that aims to improve skills in diagnosis, management and prevention of diseases in tropical countries.

Students are expected to acquire the following abilities other than knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding Diversity
  • Co-cooperativeness
  • Ability to exchange ideas

The course is linked with the Master of Tropical Medicine (MTM) and part of the Professional Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) course at the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health (TMGH) at Nagasaki University

Contents
Week 1 (Manila):

  • Bedside teaching (infectious diseases, tropical dermatology)
  • Clinical lectures
  • Urban primary care

Week 2 (Leyte):

  • Bedside teaching
  • Schistosomiasis disease control
  • Essential Intrapartum and Newborn care
  • Rural primary care
  • Response to natural disasters

Eligibility
【Pre-requisites】
Medical doctor with 2 years work experience.
(Target audience: Doctors with a recognised medical qualification. Preference given to doctors intending to work in Asia who have completed the DTM&H course.)

【English language requirements】
Good standard of written and spoken English (as per TMGH regulation)

Manila and Leyte in Philippines
